Kehlani, Frank Ocean, Indya Moore and Many Others Are Using Their Platform to Help Free Palestine

The past month has been extremely heavy for everyone who’s been following the genocide taking place in Gaza. The topic is heavily layered and a large amount of public figures and influencers have chosen a neutral stance on the topic in fear of losing opportunities and brand deals.

While many public figures have proved themselves to be cowards in the face of oppression, a handful of celebs have spoken out on the topic calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East. The first person who comes to mind is Kehlani who has not only been using her platform to educate the masses and spread awareness, but has also aided in helping activist organizations spread the word about their efforts.

On October 28th, Pose star Indya Moore was arrested for protesting with the group Jewish Voice For Peace at Grand Central Station in New York. Indya has also been actively posting about the genocide to spread awareness and help create space for Palestinian people.

Amanda Seales is another public figure that comes to mind when we think about people using large platforms to spread awareness. She’s gone above and beyond to make sure her followers are aware of the genocide being waged on Palestinian people and to translate historical events in lament terms so everyone can understand.

Amanda also shared a list of artist who have petitioned for a ceasefire which includes a number of queer artists and allies like Lena Waithe, Quinta Brunson, Rosie O’Donell, Margaret Cho, Sandra Oh, and many more. You can read the full list HERE.

Even Frank Ocean came out of hiding to share a post on his stories establishing support for Palestinians and the efforts to end the genocide in Gaza. Why is this important? Because we’ve reached a crossroads in humanity that is asking us to be intentional about what and who we support if it’s directly tied to hate and colonization.

If you’re still unsure about what’s taking place in Gaza, we recommend you start by watching the documentary 1948: Creation & Catastrophe below.

Again, we highly encourage all of you to be diligent in learning about the atrocities taking place in Gaza as well as the history of the ongoing war between Palestine and the colonized settler state of Israel. To the public figures and artist who have used their platform to be a voice for other, THANK YOU!
